Summer Grove Baptist Church

The Acts 1:8 challenge

We are discovering a renewed passion for ministry and unprecedented involvement from members of all ages. Pastors and church leaders are embracing God’s heart for the world and transforming their churches into worldwide mission centers. When a church like Summer Grove accepts and leads the Acts 1:8 Challenge, it commits to fulfill Jesus’ last spoken words on earth by taking the gospel to their Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth.

Summer Grove Baptist Church is and will be forever a church that is intentional in areas of mission’s involvement under the leadership and power of the Holy Spirit.

Our Jerusalem

Shreveport/Bossier and a 25 mile radius within the Ark-La-Tex

SGBC is uniquely positioned to fulfill our worldwide mission through an Acts 1:8 vision. Understanding that the local church is at the very center of God’s heart for reaching the world, our church mapped out our Jerusalem, our Judea, our Samaria and the ends of the earth. And we are discovering that we can literally change our world.

There are people in our community who need the gospel, but may never set foot in our church worship center. They are our “Jerusalem” mission field.

We understand the opportunities for ministry and service to reach our “Jerusalem.” We are looking for new community ministries and new church starts even now.
We will continue to partner with our Northwest Baptist Association in expanding our opportunities for ministry in our Jerusalem.

Local Area Missions

Clothes Closet

In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devasted the gulf coast, many people made their way to Shreveport seeking shelter from the storm. Many arrived in Shreveport with only the clothing on their backs and lost the rest. Summer Grove helped the local shelters with one of their biggest needs, storage, by using our huge amount of space to create almost overnight, a huge Disaster Relief Relay Center (DRRC). Since then, Summer Grove has remained a center for helping those in need by providing clothing, furniture and spiritual guidance through the ministry of the Clothes Closet. All items in the Clothes Closet are donated by members and non-members and in turn are given away at no cost to those who find themselves in need. The Clothes Closet is run by volunteers and is open Monday and Wednesdays by appointment only from 10 AM – 2 PM. Appointments can be made by calling 683.6977.

When these opportunities are created, they then place people into them to work side by side as a united front to meet needs and to love in the name of Jesus Christ. If you or your Sunday School Class is interested in serving at the Hub, please see their list of opportunities at www.thehubministry.com. Our Student Ministry regularly attends the Hub Ministry Events and would love to have volunteers join them. Please contact our Student Ministry if you would like to serve with Summer Grove @ The Hub!

No One Should Go Hungry – Christmas Food Drive

Each Christmas, Summer Grove receives many requests for help from families in our area who are hurting due to loss of jobs, etc… So, Summer Grove has teamed up with Mount Olive Baptist church to help feed the hungry of Shreveport Bossier during Christmas. Mount Olive Baptist Church helps greatly by receiving and verifying each request. Then, through the sale of very stylish T-shirts, Hoodies and Christmas cards we purchase food and then gather together on the third Saturday in December to box up the food and then deliver to the families requesting help.

Our Judea

Our church reaching our state and the expanded Ark-La-Tex region…

We are in partnership with our Louisiana Baptist Convention to discover and develop new ministry opportunities in our Judea.

Our Samaria

Summer Grove Baptist Church reaching our North American continent…

While we often think of North America as “Christian,” the reality is that an estimated 235 million people in our “Samaria” have no personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That is seven of every 10 people! The lostness of North America runs deep, and the gospel often meets a calloused response in this modern-day Samaria.

The North American Mission Board (NAMB). Wherever our interests and strategies focus in North America. The North American Mission Board will partner with us to help channel our energies there.

National Missions

Ends of the Earth

SGBC reaching our world… Thousands of people around the world are coming to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Yet the stark reality remains: 1.7 billion people still have little or no access to the gospel message. And while Southern Baptists are going to international mission fields in unprecedented numbers, many more are needed.

Our church can have global impact through a partnership with the International Mission Board (IMB) and other mission organizations. The challenge is in reaching the more than 6,500 unreached people groups throughout the world.

The IMB is poised to help us understand the needs, overcome the barriers of culture and language, and connect us with the mission opportunities that are providentially matched with our church’s vision and resources. The ends of the earth are well within our grasp!

International Missions

Honduras

Ignite Missions is a 501(c)3 ministry, founded by Sam and Peggy Feazel. Sam grew up in Summer Grove and he and his family serve the people of Honduras through evangelism, construction, children’s, youth, and medical missions. Summer Grove is a monthly supporter of the Ignite Mission.

Mexico

The Mexico Indian Training Center (M.I.T.C.) is located in Cordoba, Veracruz in Central, Mexico. Founded in 1956, the purpose of the M.I.T.C. is to evangelize villages throughout Mexico and they do this by preparing individuals called to serve God through classes, jobs, missions, personal relationships, conferences, and camps. And then they assist the works that develop as a result of this ministry. Summer Grove is a monthly supporter of the M.I.T.C.

Mission Trip Opportunity – Summer Grove travels to the Mexican Indian Training Center each summer to help support this ministry. This is a short term mission opportunity for anyone who would like to help minister to the needs of the training center, ministries they assist and the surrounding community. Any skill that God has equipped you with can be used on this trip: Painting, Welding, Sewing, Working with Children, Yard Work, Teaching, Preaching, Singing, Cooking and Carpentry.

Guatemala

The last two years a team from Summer Grove has traveled to the malnutrition center in San Juan, Guatemala to help meet the needs of children suffering from malnutrition. The center currently has more than 100 children in its care ranging from newborn to 10 years of age. With so many children in care, in various stages of malnutrition, there is much work to be done!

Our mission team will provide assistance to the center’s full-time national staff by helping with maintenance projects, providing medical care to children and staff, changing diapers, bathing children, helping feed children, and nurturing spiritual development through Bible stories, singing, crafts and games. Imagine being part of a team helping a four month old baby who only weighs four pounds gain strength and be nursed back to health!

Please pray for us as we strive to be the hands and feet of Christ by serving some of the most amazing children in the world.

Operation Christmas Child

It is amazing what a simple gift can do for a child in need. It can put a smile on a face. It can make a child feel loved. It can even bring lasting joy into difficult circumstances. Each year, Summer Grove collects gift-filled shoe boxes containing toys, school supplies, and toiletries. These boxes are then sent to Samaritan’s Purse who then adds a book of Bible studies and the plan of salvation to each box in their language. These boxes are sent to millions of children in need overseas during Christmas so that these children will experience the joy of a receiving a gift given in love.
