The philosophy of Summer Grove Baptist Weekday Preschool is to provide a warm, loving, safe and nurturing environment in which children can learn and grow.
We believe that each child is special, unique, and capable of learning. Our program promotes the total development of the child, physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually. We strive to provide each child with the skills and self-confidence they need to succeed.
We believe that “play is a child’s work”. Through play, a child learns how to explore, share, develop concentration, solve problems, and coordination. Children are provided opportunities to learn and discover through play such as group play, creative play and centers.
We believe children experience God’s love through interaction with caring, loving teachers and staff. In everything we do, we are committed to giving each child the best possible foundation for learning.

The Carpenter’s Kids is a Bible-based curriculum designed especially for preschool children. It is creative, fun and easily adaptable to children of different learning levels. The program teaches the alphabet, shapes, colors, numbers, Bible stories and more. Each letter of the alphabet has a Bible story that corresponds to that letter, such as Adam, the Good Samaritan, Noah, Mary and Zacchaeus. There are also thematic units including topics such as Manners, Weather, The Five Senses, Safety and the Seasonal Holidays. All lessons allow the children to take a “hands-on” approach to learning.
Zoo-phonics is our Language Arts Program. This is a kenesthetic, multi-approach to reinforcing the alphabet. Zoo-phonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. Then a body movement is given for each letter along with the sound that the letter makes. Therefore, the child sees, hears, speaks, and moves to learn each letter. Research has shown that when the body moves, the brain remembers. Also, lower case letters are introduced first, then capital letters. Reading materials are written 95% of the time in lower case letters and it is easier for a child to read sentences written in lower case because capital letters are all the same size.
